Online Texas Hold’em
If you’re more interested in Texas Hold’em than any other kind of poker, the good news is that every single online poker room known to man focuses on Texas Hold’em.
What’s the bad news? Well, those of us who like other variants could be slightly better served. An online poker room or online casino USA will almost certainly have plenty of rooms with Omaha Hold’em, quite a few with Omaha Hi-Lo, a decent number that offer 7-card stud, a fair amount with 5-card stud, and a few that offer 5-card draw. If you like full-on lowball games like Razz, you’ll be looking for a while (they’re out there, but it takes some work!).
But many of you may be tempted to say “who cares!” because Texas Hold’em is just about the only poker game for millions of players. Hey, it was good enough to make the newest James Bond give up Baccarat (I think I also heard him order a Red Bull — shaken, not stirred).
Online Texas Hold’em is more or less what put online gambling on the map. The timing was perfect, anyway. Just when we got a fast Internet that was safe and secure (when it needed to be, anyway), and right about the time when the Generation X-ers started to grow up a little and all the executives got sick of playing golf…it’s a perfect storm for Texas Hold’em!
So Chris Moneymaker came around in 2003 to win the World Series of Poker after qualifying at online satellites, and all the world rushed to their computers to log in. They found online slots and Texas Hold’em waiting, as it had been since the first half of the 20th Century (well, not on computers, of course).
If you’re already playing Texas Hold’em online, you don’t need to be told all of this. “Just take me to the really helpful stuff,” you say. Well, let’s get going right now…
